The White Cliffs of Dover

Most of the following was posted as comments on Merovee before the article disappeared and as most of the world is talking about another war and doom and gloom I thought I would talk about peace.

Dover has been sinking lately  it appeared in the news last week in regards to Vera Lynn releasing an album to coincide with her 100th birthday.

“Vera Lynn 100” will feature Lynn’s original vocals set to re-orchestrated versions of some of her most famous songs including “The White Cliffs of Dover” and “Auf Wiederseh’n Sweetheart.”

The album is being released on March 17, three days before the singer’s milestone birthday.

“It’s truly humbling that people still enjoy these songs from so many years ago, reliving the emotions of that time,” Lynn said in a statement released by Decca Records.

“It’s so wonderful for me to hear ‘my songs’ again so beautifully presented in a completely new way,” she said.

Known as the “forces’ sweetheart”, Lynn famously boosted troops’ morale during World War II, travelling thousands of miles to Egypt, India and Myanmar to entertain soldiers with her songs.

Lynn, who started performing at the age of SEVEN, has won many accolades during her illustrious career.

We’re off to a flying start! A cruise with a British Spitfire send-off that ends with France’s finest coastal towns.

This surprise Saga ‘Magic Moment’ was a first for me. In all my previous voyages, I can’t think of any other cruise where the passengers have received such a grand send-off!

A BRAVE Second World War pilot marked her 100th birthday – by reaching for the sky once more in an iconic Spitfire. Mary Ellis, who is a petite 5ft 2in tall, was even joined by one she flew earlier.

On Christmas Day the White Cliffs of Dover made the news as three bodies were found having fallen from the top. Two of the three were twins…….. brother and sister.

The White Dove is the cultural symbol of peace and love it also represents the Holy Spirit in the Christian world. It is represented by the number three as it is the third part of the Trinity and by the number seven as it has seven aspects….thats a 37.

The number 37 is linked to Creation in Genesis 1:1 and represents Wisdom and the Heart.

Wisdom in the Old Testament is described as female and one of the Seven Sisters and she stands at the CROSS roads or gateway. In the New Testament she appears again this time as the Holy Spirit who came with tongues of fire (spitfire)  on the feast of Pentecost.

One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is joy or happiness. Maurice Maeterlinck introduced the concept of a “blue bird of happiness” in his play The Blue Bird (1908). As a result, bluebirds became a widely recognised symbol of happiness and cheer, and have been used as such by numerous songwriters.

Examples are Jan Peerce’s signature song, “Bluebird of Happiness”, Judy Garland’s “Hello, Bluebird”, “Over the Rainbow” (“Somewhere over the Rainbow/Bluebirds fly”), “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows” (“I’m Always Chasing Rainbows/Waiting to find a little bluebird in vain”), “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” (“Mr. Bluebird’s on my shoulder”), David Bowie’s “Lazarus” (“I’ll be free / just like that Bluebird”), Vera Lynn’s “The White Cliffs of Dover” (“There’ll be bluebirds over/The White Cliffs of Dover”; a particularly remarkable instance, as there are no bluebirds in Europe), and Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Bluebird”.

Songwriters have also portrayed the bluebird as a muse, as in the song “Voices in the Sky” by the British rock group The Moody Blues, from their 1968 album In Search of the Lost Chord.

Dover also appeared in the mindlines across the pond in regard to the President of Nod and his first lady (I mean daughter)  paying respects to Private Ryan.

The president kept his visit to pay respects to Chief Special Warfare Operator William “Ryan” Owens, at Dover airbase in Delaware, US, shrouded in secrecy.

Marine One touched down at Dover shortly before a C-17, which was thought to have been carrying Owens’ remains landed.

Remembering Private Ryan

From an Irish surname which was derived from Ó Riain meaning “descendant of Rían”. The given name Rían probably means “little king” (from Irish rí “king” combined with a diminutive suffix).

The White Dove also appeared in the story of Noah and the Ark along with a double seven.

But the dove could find no place to land because the water still covered the ground. So it returned to the boat, and Noah held out his hand and drew the dove back inside. 10After waiting another seven days, Noah released the dove again. 11This time the dove returned to him in the evening with a fresh olive leaf in its beak. Then Noah knew that the floodwaters were almost gone. 12He waited another seven days and then released the dove again. This time it did not come back.

So the white dove is linked to both fire and water and also to the olive tree and olive oil.

Cognate: 1637 élaion – olive oil (from 1636 /elaía, “olive tree”); (figuratively) the indwelling (empowering) of the Holy Spirit.

The 37 Holy Spirit

We are still waiting for the gateway to open and the White Dove to come back once more to set the world on fire. But in the meantime don’t worry bee happy.
